World Cares Center is a New York-based nonprofit organization, established after the 9.11 terrorist attacks. Having kept growing with its capacity, during the devastating time after Hurricane Sandy, it empowered affected communities through disaster response coordination and delivered disaster preparedness trainings. Of course Peace Boat Disaster Relief Volunteer Center staff members came to New York in solidarity with World Cares Center. Through this time, our friendship grew even bigger and stronger.

Lisa’s visit to Peace Boat is a fruit of our collaboration. This time she will be speaking about her work supporting survivors and responders in the wake of the 9.11 terrorist attacks, as well as her extensive work with communities affected by Hurricane Sandy in New York. She will also discuss the role of volunteers in disaster time, disaster volunteer systems in the USA and the importance of Japan-US relations in the context of international disaster relief.
