From September 19 to 22, the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates will be held in Mérida, Mexico. Peace Boat will be participating in the Summit as one of the semifinalist organisations for 2019 Billion Acts Hero Awards.

This year, Peace Boat was nominated for the Hero Award, offered annually by the Peacejam Foundation. The Peacejam Foundation is an international organization whose mission is to create young leaders committed to positive change. Every year, the foundation awards Billion Acts Hero Awards, honouring global citizen movements designed to tackle the most important challenges facing our planet today, and to actively create a more sustainable and peaceful world. Peace Boat was chosen from among 10 million acts of peace as one of the two semifinalists for the Best University Act category. The organisers recognized Peace Boat’s long-term dedication in peace and nuclear disarmament education.

As a nominee for the Billion Hero Award, Peace Boat will be participating in the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates (Nobel Peace Summit). The Summit is internationally recognised as the most important annual event in the field of peacemaking. Since 1999, it has attracted Nobel Peace Laureates, high-profile leaders, organizations, students, and professors from around the globe. The title of this year’s Summit is “Leave your mark for Peace.” The program will engage civil society and youth from throughout the world by providing them the tools and strategies needed to achieve peace at the local and global levels.

During the Nobel Peace Summit, Peace Boat will present its work at the Peace Lab discussion on Nuclear Disarmament. It will also be taking part in the Climate Strike hosted by PeaceJam and Nobel Women’s initiative. On September 20, there will be the Billion Acts Hero Awards Ceremony where Peace Boat will be honoured as one of the nominees and will be meeting various Nobel Peace Laureates.
